Your respiratory health is important. When you help protect yourself against the flu and other potentially serious respiratory diseases, speak with your doctor about getting vaccinated against pneumococcal pneumonia too.
Here’s what to talk about.
Your health:
Certain chronic medical conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or chronic lung disease can increase your risk for pneumococcal pneumonia. The risk can go up even further if you have more than one condition.
Medicines you take:
Taking medicines that suppress your immune system can also put you at higher risk. This includes some medicines that treat psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, or ulcerative colitis, among other conditions.
Your age:
If you are [65 or older], you may be at higher risk for pneumococcal pneumonia, even if you're healthy.
Here are some questions to ask.
